"Nice start but falls far short of the mark."
Pros: Compact design, seems to have a strong internal antenna, fast start up
Cons: used the unit for 30 minutes before deciding to return it. Buttons are tiny. I wore a hole in my thumb using the buttons and because of the shape and how hard u have to push the buttons i almost dropped it several times. text on screen is small
Summary: I have a magellan sport trak that is at least 5 years old. I was looking to upgrade and find a unit that has better maping than my old unit does. When I first turned on the triton 500 I was impressed. It started quickly and the color display produced a wow effect that was short lived. Once the light turns off you can no longer see the display. I immediately noticed how small the function buttons were and then tried to use finding them almost impossible to push. I found myself trying to convince myself it would still be ok and must be better because it was new. The more I used the unit the more unhappy I was with my purchase (I hate buyers remorse). The built in base map completly sucks. My old unit barely had a map and it was better than what this unit comes with. Long story long... I was very disappointed that Magellan dropped the ball on this one. I find Magellan has a strong reciever/antenna combo but beyond that does not deliver.
