Product brief
Description: The Magellan Meridian GPS is a 12-channel, general purpose global positioning device.Compared to other general purpose GPS receivers on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $165.
Pros: Utilizes WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) technology to achieve an error margin of 3 meters or less.Serial computer interface makes it possible to add new programs and maps as well as store previous trips and data.Tracklog function automatically creates a record of the path traveled and stores it as a series of points for later use.Uses a standard SD memory card to store routes and maps. Its removable memory allows for almost unlimited storage of routes and other data.Waterproof receiver stands up to the elements.
Cons: None noted, given available product data.
Suitability: Ideal for the entry level user. Its backlit keypad makes this unit ideal for nighttime excursions.Rugged case design affords the durability needed in some settings.Has an internal antenna which is desirable for activities where an external antenna would get in the way. This unit is somewhat heavy, weighing in at 8 oz.
Value: Overall, this GPS receiver's features seem a bit weak, even for its relatively inexpensive price. Also note this unit is able to store up to 500 waypoints. This is in line with the average GPS device.
