"What was the reviewer talking about?"
Pros: Slim and small, huge library of games, online built in
Cons: None it does what it can.
Summary: I hate the review for the ps2 on cnet. It's stupid, look the new ps2 is smaller than any console and doesn't overheat. Anyway the ps2 has a huge library of games since it came out in 2000 not only that it has hundreds of games from ps1. I don't know about you but I was one of 100 million that had a ps1 and I have lots of classic ps1 games.
It is true that compared to xbox and gamecube in graphics it's getting old. I look at it this way ps2 was being made to battle dreamcast (R.I.P.). They didn't know about xbox cause everyone thought it was a rumor or it was gonna play pc games only. So microsoft and nintendo had plenty of time to make their gpu's.
You know what though ps2 is approaching 100 million aswell, not bad for a system that has inferior graphics huh. Anyway ps2 is the best console for what counts, games. Xbox and gamecube can have the better graphics but at the end of the day it's all about the games and that's why ps2 is number 1 worldwide.
Exclusives like grand theft auto whose controversy just increases the sales of it and ps2, gran turismo and many more is what drives the success of ps2. I hope my review helps people see the bigger picture between ps2 and the competition.

You say that PS2 was developed to compete with the Dreamcast? Then why was PS2 completely inferior to it? PS2 was a huge disappointment, it looks just like the PS1 with an extra RAM chip installed so that you can see more of the broken, horribly textured landscapes. Dreamcast was the first 128-bit system and the xbox360 is the first thing to come out that can surpass its capabilities! Sega was always two steps ahead of the competition and it's a shame they are out of the console business. Master system beat NES hands down but cost twice as much, which is why they could never corner the market like nintendo did. I will admit that SNES was superior to the Genesis, but Genesis came out a full 2 years before the SNES! Then Sega develops the Game Gear, an 8-bit color handheld with a backlit projection TV screen that could even be used as a portable TV. And what was the competition debuting at the same time? A 2-bit (yes 2-bits!) 4 color grayscale Gameboy with an LCD screen. Dreamcast was also the first system to have games with internet play. PS2 was a dated system from the day it launched, and its predecessor was inferior to the Sega Saturn. I'm sure that the PS3 will be about as innovative as its name and another disappointment. But they will once again survive b/c they manage to draw major developers and tasteless fans.

The PS2 has abosolutely nothing over the XBox and Gamecube. XBox and Gamecube don't just have better graphics, but better games! Sure the PS2 may have tons of games, but at the end of the day it only matters how good the games are. For example, XBox has Halo and Halo 2. Your probably thinking "big deal, two games," but I'd rather have 2 great games than a thousand bad games.

I own this same PlayStation 2, and I was amazed at the graphics; especially in Gran Turismo 4...that game is just awesome. I tried to play GT4 on my friend's old, fat console (but still smaller than Xbox) and there was a considerable improvement on graphics. PlayStation2 is the best console in the world, and 100 million ppl who bought it knows it; Xbox is too big for portability (letsay you want to bring it to your friend's house) and its controllers does not nessesarily fit everyone's hand; the only good exclusive title it has is Halo; PS2 has a few, including GT4, Grand Theft Auto, and others that I probably dont know. So, reading these factors, what console is the most popular and the best? You decide.

I liked my ps2 for a year. Then I kept reading about all of these great games that come out in japan a year before they come to the U.S.(or sometimes they don't come over). Since the U.S. market bought more than twice as many Ps2's than japan I would think they better make us the priority for the ps3. I own all the game systems and I will never buy a new one without a harddrive.
Don't forget the fact that every game store has tons of ps2's that need to be fixed. I saw a game store that had a back room full of broken ps2's.Stacked up to the ceiling. People were forced to buy a 2nd one when the original was to costly to repair.they did not have any xboxs or gamenerds that were broken. -
PS2-250Mhz--Gigantic library
XBOX-733Mhz--A few original titles/tons of pc ports
GameCube-485--original titles/lotsa kid games
Dont compare them, just buy whats fits you. I have all 3 and havent played my xbox since beating halo2. I play my GC with my chillins and play my PS2 regularly online or singleplayer. Also i love the new popup disk tray.
