"dont even bother"
Pros: recharable battery
Cons: too many to list here
Summary: i recently used this on a 2500 mile trip. there are so many things wrong with this, so i will only list the ones that stick out in my mind:
1. you can't navigate anywhere unless you are located on an actual road. if you're in a parking lot or off the street it says 'no valid GPS signal'
2. exits are giving with exit numbers instead of street names. not sure about where you travel but not alot of highways have exit numbers where i live
3. it doesn't have banks/ATMs in its 'points of interest' database
4. street names don't show up on screen while driving. it just shows a red road.
5. city names don't show up on the screen. i actually had to break out my AAA map to see what city i was in.
6. the GPS location of it's points of interest are way off, in some case 1/2 mile.
7. on my 2500 mile trip the unit reset/rebooted about 9 times and froze/locked up once.
8. the maps are old/inaccurate. it doesn't even have a freeway near LA that is at least 5 years old.
i could go on and on ... but it's not worth my time ...

I too purchased a Tomtom Go 300 during my last trip to the USA, I drove over 3000 miles in a month. The Tomtom Go 300 worked faultlessly everytime. It does work in carparks but sometimes you have to find the exit before it works out which road you are on, surely you can find the exit of a carpark without the help of a GPS? As for exits on highways, this nmachine is designed for use in other countries as well. There is definately something wrong with the US highway system. In most countries exits are numbered not named, and how can you give 2,3 or even 4 highway numbers for the same road? This machine is brilliant!

This review is not even remotely close to reality. I've been using the TTG 300 since last July have had nothing but exceptional service from this well above average product.
As a licensed investigator in the State of Delaware, this product has saved me more time and money than I ever could have hoped for. It ALWAYS gets me to my destination. Pretty much ALL GPS navigation maps are typically a couple years behind current road construction as roads are constantly changing. Nonetheless, I find the maps to be highly accurate wherever I'm headed.
The hardware is extremely well made and features exceptional sound volume / clarity, in addition to other quality components such as the German made quick release mounting arm and base. The only weak point is that the display could be brighter in direct sunlight conditions. Even this weakness, however, is easily overcome with a number of quality aftermarket sun shade products such as "StompStomp" sunshade and the Drumma Visor by DrummaVisors.com.
Even better, I have found the Go units to be highly customizable thanks to numerous 3rd party addons available at no change that ups the value to me considerably. By referring to the MYTomTomGo.com forum, I have been able to find tons of great customizing and user information specific to the Go units: custom "splash" screens, custom screen menus, custom map colors, poi databases, quik-add traffic camera application, custom voices and sound effects, etc, etc. My unit was EXCELLENT right out of the box and has only gotten better as I've have learned how to best use it. All the free custom upgrades have simply been gravy atop an already superior product. Ignore this guy's rating as it is absurdly inaccurate and clearly a refelection of the user not understanding or knowing how to use the product. This thing is a 10+ relative to others available at considerably greater cost. -
I live in the uk and give this 10/10 all atm and lots of places of interest included
must be different in usa cost in uk £300 -
I'm not really sure what product this gentleman was using, but I've had this product for a few months now and have been all over the country with it.
To his first point about it not working in parking lots or off road. The product is meant for street navigation only, not for parking lot or offroad navigation. And as far as the exits go, it shows both the exit number and the street name. Banks are part of the points of interest, they are just not one of the first five that pop up on the screen intially, you have to go into the second screen (one tap). Street names do show up, as well as cities as you cross into them (knowing that you're driving through Podunk, USA isn't all that important in my opinion). I've only run into a few instances when the POI, or address was off, and in 95% of those cases it was due to a relocation of the business I was going to. If the highways have been or are under construction during the mapping process they may not be on there I have noticed that, but why would you want a highway on there that you can not even use. Also, there are updates every few months to the product that in some cases are free, if you register your product you'll see that.
I travel all over the country with mine, and if it wasn't for the TomTom GO 300 I'd be carrying around a notebook full of printed out directions that half the time don't do any good anyways.
I love this product so much that I bought 2 others for friends and family. -
Hi, I have not had those problems, I do get street names on there, and do have banks on the points of interest. When I am on a parkinglot it does not loose signal it works perfectly naturally if you are in a parkinglot with many tall buildings or trees covering your view with the satelites then naturally it does not get a signal. I LOVE IT.
