"Blows Away My Denon 3801"
Pros: The surround modes just sound awesome, great autosetup
Cons: could use a slightly richer overall sound-just turn up sub tho
Summary: I dumped my Denon 3801 (had 4+years) for this. I have to say that with the Denon I never even came close to the all enveloping surround perfection I hear from this receiver. I attribute it to the MCACC setup in which you put a microphone(supplied) where your sitting position is and the receiver will set all the speakers(I run a 7.1 all JMLab) accordingly. It works like magic. DVDs have never sounded better. I realize the Denon was a better quality component (cost me over $850 online-retailed for $1199) but I could never quite get the surround modes sounding as good as this $400 baby. The sound is crystal clear on this and very very natural, almost too much so but I am used to my "warm" Denon so I will get used to it. It actually seems more precise. I do not have an HDTV setup so I cannot comment on the HDMI capability. This receiver is an absolute steal.
